How to Find Your True Bra Size
For many of us, the most uncomfortable part of the day is the moment we put on our bra—or perhaps the moment we finally take it off. If you’re constantly tugging at straps, dealing with digging wires, or adjusting a shifting band, the culprit is almost certainly the wrong fit.
A well-fitted bra shouldn't just be "good enough"; it should feel like a second skin, providing support that allows you to move freely and confidently. Here is your step-by-step guide to measuring yourself at home and identifying what a truly supportive fit feels like.
Measuring at Home: The Two-Step Method
Find Your Band Size
Wrap the tape snugly around your rib cage, directly underneath your bust. Keep it level all the way around, parallel to the floor.
If the number is even, add 4". If it's odd, add 5".
This is your band size.
Example: 30" under-bust → 34" band.
Find Your Cup Size
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, usually at the nipple line. Snug, but never compressing.
Bust measurement minus band size = cup difference.
1"=A · 2"=B · 3"=C · 4"=D · 5"=DD

Is Your Bra Working for You?
The Band
The band provides 80% of your support. It should sit firmly against your back, level with the front. You should be able to slide only two fingers underneath it. If the band rides up your back, it’s too large; if it’s leaving deep red indentations, it’s too tight.
The Center Gore
The center piece of fabric between your breasts (the "gore") should sit flat against your breastbone. If it lifts away from your skin, the cup size is likely too small.
The Cups
Your breasts should be fully contained within the cups. If you see "spillage" over the top or sides (the dreaded double-boob), you need a larger cup. If the fabric at the top of the cup is wrinkled or gaping, your cup is too large.
The Straps
Straps are for positioning, not for lifting. You should be able to fit one finger between the strap and your shoulder. If your straps are constantly digging into your shoulders, your band is likely too loose, forcing the straps to do all the heavy lifting.
Pro-Tips
Start on the loosest hook
When you buy a new bra, it should fit perfectly on the loosest set of hooks. As the elastic stretches over time, you can move to the tighter hooks to maintain the fit.
Styles Matter
Just like jeans, bra brands and styles fit differently. A "plunge" bra will feel different than a "full-coverage" bra. Don’t be discouraged if you need to go up or down a cup size depending on the design
